It’s Thursday! We’re almost done with the work week. So this morning I read Luke 12 and several things came to mind from this morning’s text. But there was one point that stood out: Stay ready.
Jesus is coming back. Jesus said, “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are watching for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.” This is a metaphor to get across a major point: we should be like servants waiting for our master to return, not knowing the exact time he will arrive. Jesus said, “You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
He came once, having been born by the virgin Mary for the salvation of sinners. When he returns, the Bible is clear, he will not be returning to deal with sin as he already has. Rather, he will be coming to retrieve those who are eagerly waiting for him (Heb. 9:28). Therefore, remain watchful! Stay alert. Jesus is coming.
