Life is short. Someone once said, “When we realize the shortness of life, we begin to see the importance of making every moment count.” That’s what I want to encourage you to do in this blog. Make every moment count. I want to begin by pointing out that Scripture has always maintained the shortness of our lifespan.
The Bible says in Job 14:1, “Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble.” In other words, your life is not as long as you think, it only lasts a few days, and what few days you do have on this side of heaven are not always easy. The Bible says in Psalm 103:15 “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.” The psalmist is saying your life, like grass, is only for a season. The Bible says in Job 1:9, “For we are but of yesterday and know nothing, for our days on earth are a shadow.” That’s saying our life is like a shadow, as quick as a shadow comes and goes, so is your life. The Bible says in James 4:14, “For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James is saying your life is as short as a droplet of mist; that your life exists for an incredibly short period of time and then, like a droplet of mist, it disappears.
And since life is short I want you all to take a moment to reflect on your life. The Bible says in James 4:13-14, “Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit – yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life?” In many ways we take life for granted. We take spending time with our loved ones for granted. We get into a routine in life with the assumption we are going to wake up in the morning, live a full day, see our families, go to work, and return home in the evening. When the reality is this: we are not promised the next minute of our life. Just something to consider.
So, I ask you, “What is your life?” Are you taking this day for granted? Are you taking this life for granted? Remember to make the most of each moment. Life is too short not too. We are here today and gone tomorrow. And while there are many ways a person can make the most of their life, the best way is to know Christ Jesus. There is not a more satisfying way to live life on this earth than through Him.
